Song titles revealed

Tracklisting so far:

- All The Best: a rocker featuring Michael and Mike sharing lead vocals
- Alligator (TBC): featuring Peaches and Lenny Kaye
- It Happened Today: featuring vocals by Eddie Vedder
- Walk It Back: a piano ballad
- Everyday is yours to win: "a slow, beautiful song built around a guitar riff", in Mike's words
- Blue: closing song on the album; featuring vocals by Patti Smith

"This past week, Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. spent a few days with producer Jacknife Lee in Portland's Jackpot Recording Studio. It is early, early demo days for the next record, which is still a ways away. January 10, 2010: "Q: So, what’s currently happening in R.E.M. land? You guys were down in New Orleans doing some recording. A: We did 3 weeks of work and tracked a bunch of new songs. Michael sang on about half of them, probably. So, we got a really good start on the next record." - Scott McCaughey

July 14, 2010: R.E.M. finishes new album in Berlin.

August 4, 2010: Ken Stringfellow listen to the album, and says 1) it's "old school"; 2) has vocals which were mixed super low which he couldn't understand; 3) there's a lot of acoustic and electric guitars, some piano songs but he didn't hear a lot of crazy, freaky keyboards and vintage drum machines in there; 4) has a very live feel.

September 4, 2010: Bertis Downs, reporting from Nashville gives some more information about the new REM record. Anton Corbijn has been doing the photo shoot for the new record, and both Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye contributing to the record. The band wraps up recording in Nashville.

October 14, 2010: Bertis reveals new album's title:
"Collapse into now"

On november 14th, 2008, R.e.m. released Accelerate's 4th single.
